The PHP date() function seems to be missing one key mask in its arsenal.
If you are creating a calendar dynamically, sometimes its useful to know how many rows there will be in it.

here's a snippet i thought up

I had a problem where those scripts would work the first time, but then lock up or take forever to finish even simple scripts like

tell application "Finder"
get the name of every item in the desktop
end tell

what i found is that you need to wrap it with a timeout statement like this

tell application "Finder"
with timeout 0 seconds
get the name of every item in the desktop
end timeout
end tell

This seems to fix that hang. If you know of another more suitable solution, please post a comment or let me know at mikev gmail com

New project idea: RSS scraper for newzbin.com

I use newzbin.com all the time to get my .nzb files. The problem is that I find myself spending alot of time there and finding nothing worth while. Sounds like a good candidate for a rss feed. Ah, but they dont offer that. Sooo... I think i'll make a scraper.

No trip to hawaii for you!

This sucks. I had these grandious plans to go to hawaii next year for a vacation but no more. I actually had a plan and a backup plan. But both have now fallen. My friend got married last year moved out to hawaii ( bastard ). The original idea was to go out there next august to visit and hang out for a few weeks, but turns out he's moving back here in january. So no august trip. Then my hopes for a trip were again raised when i learned about a regatta to hawaii this january. Woo0t! So now a trip over there in january!... weeeelll last night i got an email that said only the varsity team can go!!!! I'm stuck here forever now i feel.

Gmail snooping my attachments!

I tried to submit a programming a assignment the other day from my gmail account and I ran into a strange problem. Gmail wouldn't let me. I was sending the executable portion of some dumb game i had to write in a zip file. I attached the file in the normal way but when i pushed send, i got some message that for "security reasons" attachments of this type are not allowed. Come on google! You're smart enough to know that it's not a virus!!!!!

I also ran accross this headline today about similar attachment snooping issues.
